Clamp down the umbilical cord with a hemostat. This scissor-like device allows you to easily cut the umbilical cord without resorting to dental floss. To use, simply clamp down the newborn’s umbilical cord, cut it on the placenta side, wait two minutes, and then remove the hemostat. The hemostat features straight or curved ends and comes in 5.5”, 4.5”, or 3.5”.
